Northwest Joins Distribution Surcharge Charge
Northwest Airlines late last week said on Sept. 1 it would begin charging $3.50 per segment on bookings that do not come through preferred distribution channels (of which Farelogix is one). Northwest latest to announce GDS booking fee

Northwest Airlines informed travel agencies and corporate travel departments July 21 that it will begin charging a $3.50 per-segment service fee Sept. 1 for Northwest and KLM bookings through nonpreferred distribution products
Northwest said it will charge no fee and provide full content, including published, Internet and promotional fares and related inventory,, for Farelogix’s Direct Connect Product (among others). Check out the complete article here.

Those of you who read the cover story featured in the April issue of Travolution may recall the mouthy statements made by Emirates, which said it was fed up with being gouged by the GDSs and was consequently exploring direct connect options with its top travel agency partners and alternative distribution channels. Following the expiration late last month of a 10-year marketing agreement, under which American agreed to promote the use of the Sabre GDS, the airline has been positioning itself in marketing messages and corporate advisories that without a contract it would push volume through other channels. Last week on its Web site, American detailed its plan. American Airlines is to charge travel agents a fee for tickets purchased through the Sabre booking system, a move that could push up fares for some consumers.

Farelogix Raises $6M Series C, Reorganizes After New CEO Appointment
Farelogix, which operates a travel booking platform, has raised a $6 million Series C round of funding, its second institutional round. Previous investor Sandler Capital led the round and other undisclosed smaller investors and individuals contributed.
As a result of the financing, Michael Marocco, senior managing director and head of private equity investing at Sandler Capital Management, will join its board of directors. Farelogix has also named recently appointed President and Chief Executive Jim Davidson to the board of directors; Davidson joined the company in mid-January.
