About Farelogix

Customers | The Market | Where Farelogix Adds Value
About the FLX Platform | Partnerships | Executive Team

Farelogix Inc. is a recognized leader in providing low-cost, multi-source distribution and independent faring technology to the global travel industry. The company, which is headquartered in Miami, Florida – with development and support facilities in Toronto, Canada – was founded in 1998. Farelogix is funded by Sandler Capital Management of New York.

Farelogix has built its success on the development of the FLX™ Platform – a revolutionary technology solution that provides total content in a low-cost distribution environment. The FLX Platform dynamically aggregates content from virtually any travel data source including all four major Global Distribution Systems (GDS), direct travel supplier connections, private/corporate fares, Internet fares, and consolidators. With its powerful and sophisticated pricing technology and business rules engine, the FLX Platform enables comparative shopping across sources. It also insulates corporations and travel management companies from changing industry dynamics without operational disruption, while providing travel suppliers with huge distribution cost savings.

Customers
Farelogix offers technology that meets the needs of four key audiences: Travel Suppliers, Travel Sellers, Travel Buyers (Corporations), and consumer-based Travel Site Search Engines. Its customers include some of the largest travel management companies (TMC) and suppliers in the United States and Canada, including Navigant International, American Express Canada, Carlson Leisure Group Services, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and AirTran.

The Market
Although the Internet has radically changed the way consumers and corporate employees shop for and purchase travel, most transactions are still controlled by the four GDS using legacy mainframe technology, which is significantly limited in its ability to technically improve distribution. With travel suppliers focused on reducing all variable costs, the momentum toward lower-cost distribution platforms is accelerating.

Travel industry and Farelogix solution timeline

GDS deregulation in July 2004 eliminated the requirement for a travel supplier to maintain travel content parity in all GDS distribution systems. As a result, travel agencies and others that distribute travel content need no longer rely upon a single source (e.g. a GDS) as the sole supplier of all travel information. This has provided significant opportunities for technology companies that effectively aggregate information from multiple sources, and display content for both information and booking purposes to travel agencies, corporate travel departments, and end consumers.

There has been considerable discussion around the GDS reducing segment incentives unless TMCs make the decision to “opt-out” and not receive access to all the content in that particular GDS. American Airlines also recently defined specific booking channels where no additional fees would be charged by the airline. This is in contrast to a $3.50 per segment (over $10.00 per ticket) fee for tickets booked through a non-preferred booking channel. These and other industry changes further validate the value that the Farelogix FLX platform brings to the travel market.

Where Farelogix Adds Value
Through the FLX platform, travel agents will be able to source travel content against an infinite number of flexible rules-based criteria, such as: lowest cost to the supplier (competitive booking source); best economics to the agency (segment incentives); and best content source according to supplier (i.e. Web site).

These rules are established in the Farelogix Distribution Manager (DM) and can be managed at the level of agency location, customer, city pair and any other combination. The integrated solution enables TMCs to monitor and manage contractual commitments made to their customers, GDS, and suppliers. For example, rules can be set to ensure the appropriate GDS bookings are met, or a minimum number of bookings per month are made via a particular source of content.

About the FLX Platform
The FLX Platform is an XML-based solution that has been designed and created specifically for the travel industry supply-chain. Its core proprietary technology focuses on efficient and cost-effective product distribution, multi-host data management, and rules-driven searching, pricing, and booking. The Platform, which can be deployed as a Farelogix or customer-hosted server-based environment, supports several operating environments.

The FLX Platform can be deployed easily and rapidly for immediate use, enabling users to respond quickly and economically to changing industry pressures, while simultaneously "bridging" the gaps with existing legacy processes, systems, and/or components. Its proprietary searching and pricing technology enables comparative shopping across sources, while its plug and play architecture is highly scalable and runs on Solaris, Linux, Windows, and Apple.

The components that comprise the FLX Platform include: Distribution Manager (DM), Master Itinerary (MI), Virtual Fare Store (VFS), Fare Management System (FMS), and Business Intelligence (BI).
